My students who I set up on blogs just before winter break are really having a good time. They've been working on an author study since November, and the blog has been the perfect venue to write their book reviews. They are totally buying into the notion that they are writing for an authentic audience: each other!
At parent-teacher conferences this evening, I made a point of bringing a laptop so I could show off the blog to parents. One student pointed out to his parent the…

So, I finally jumped through all of the right hoops to get permission slips out to my students for our "Blog Experiment". On Friday, I set up my first group of kidds. Within 24 hours, three of them were having a grand old time playing with the template and --ta-da!-- writing. Today, I received three more permission slips. This is fun. I just hope that I can justify all of this fun with improved writing skills as well.

A new trimester begins tomorrow and I've been cleaning up my Level 1 French class wiki to make it more utilitarian for a new trimester's homework grid. What's a homework grid, you ask? Well, it's a collection of assignment choices grouped into different category-types (vocabulary, reading-writing, speaking-listening, technology, and culture). Students select a different assignment each week to prepare and turn in on Friday. I try to provide students with a variety…

I'm really feeling a lot of success with my 1st year French class
wiki. There is growing evidence that they use the links and videos to do their homework. Students talk about the videos, and one student even sent me a new video link to add. My latest coup in bringing kids to web 2.0 technology has been with comic strip generators. I am so pleased with the positive response I've gotten from kids with comic strip generators that I'm on the lookout for new…

Though my report date is not for two more weeks, I am already in the back-to-school mindset. Here are some of the things I need to do this week.
1. Make a trip to my school and start setting up. I've been moved to a different room, and figuring out how to arrange it is important to me.
2. Get back in touch with three colleagues who've already contacted me regarding planning for next year. We…

Though I've been a
blogger for two years now, I have just learned about Classroom 2.0. What a great social networking idea!
Among other things this summer, I have been very busy learning about technology as it might apply to education. Here are some things I have learned thus far --
Wikis: I first saw the Common Craft video on wikis in May. This coincided with family tragedy, for my mother-in-law suffered a…
