“Learning is a continuous process” it’s an universal truth that we all know, what we don’t know is that Learning has come a long way since the first schools began to the introduction of text- books and classrooms. Now, learning has taken a new dimension, it is gradually shifting its base from physical classrooms to virtual classrooms. Learning is now taking place in virtual environment i.e. on Internet with the help of various tools like web 2.0, collaborative technologies etc. All this has opened many new frontiers for educators and education seekers. Believe it or not, it is possible for a 2nd grade class to take a field trip from Birmingham to London! All through virtual connection by using the computer or E – learning.
But how did all this E learning come to pass? Well as time went on and more and more people were able to connect to the Internet, more research and development went into E –learning.
Researchers began looking at different ways of using technology to help people learn as well as send emails and do other things by using the Internet access. And with the introduction of more software and E learning solutions such as web meeting tools and other vital file information things began to move even faster for the Internet and the idea of E –learning stayed on the minds of those who were in the field of learning and technology.
Soon, many online education portals started to flood Internet, they were doing it with the help of technology like web meeting software which are extremely easy to use and create a real time environment for those who seek education on Internet. This all is so efficient that it has created a whole wave among the new generation to opt for e-learning rather than more traditional ways like hiring personal tutors or going to coaching centers. Moreover this all is coming at such a price whereby anyone can afford it.
Then web casts and animation was created as well as better graphics to eventually the web cams allowing virtual tours and field trips or other world wide things no one thought would be possible, but with E Learning it was true and possible to achieve.
There are some other educational tools like simulations etc that are used in virtual life for the education purpose, though the credibility of these are remains to be seen.
On an average out of every ten homes in the UK today eight out of those ten have computers and access to the Internet so E learning is definitely here to stay.
Now we have real time capabilities and other sources beyond even our own comprehension unless we are the researchers and developers of a lot of the concepts of the computer and the Internet. E learning is a good tool, and one that simply keeps getting better and improved all the time.
I came across an educator named
24hourstutor.com who uses these collaborative learning tools for providing tutorials to its customers.
