I had my first "Intro to Web 2.0" class last Thursday and I think it was a success. I created a ning social network for the class and we are going to use that to blog and have discussions. We do not use moodle in my district, so that was not an option. I felt like using ning for the class would prepare my students well for joining this group which they will do in the next few weeks. First classes are always crazy, and this one was no exception, but everyone (there are 16 people in the group) did manage to get their ning page set up and create a del.icio.us account. Next week I am planning to have everyone find some blogs that interest them, but I don't think we are going to set up a reader yet - although I'm still debating that.

Last week I interviewed 8 candidates for a second grade position at my school. I was one of several people on the committee. We each asked a question. I was struck by the fact that only one of the 8 candidates had anything to say about using technology in the classroom (and we hired that one). Technology clearly wasn't at the front of any one's mind. I've got my work cut out for me!

OK - this is a particularly boring blog entry. It has been so long since I have written anything. I feel like it is better to be boring than to be silent. Maybe that will be my new mantra.

P.S. I discovered the google toolbar as a way to spell check these blog entries - there doesn't seem to be another way.
