Professional Development Ideas and Strategies

Hello All!

I am holding a meeting during April on Professional Development Ideas and Strategies AS WELL AS sharing Classroom 2.0. Any ideas anyone would like to share? I am looking for strategies to get educators on board with technology and using it daily ... transparent in the classroom ... instead of "Tech Tuesdays". What are training strategies you are familiar with that work with a teacher's busy schedule and aligns to the different learning styles and levels of technology knowledge?

Check out what the librarians are doing

What you need to learn in 15 minutes a day is hard to argue with. Maybe add a couple. Take out a couple. I dunno.

I'm going to cross post to the post on using web 2.0 in elementary classes. There are many online/computer based activities you can do whole class. PowerPoint is popular, I use Inspiration mind maps at the start and end of each week's reading selection, but you have to absolutely set aside time for students to get online themselves. You don't have to start with this, but I think you need to get there eventually. I do this by having one of my "stations" for workshop or independent work time or what have you as computers. I also structure it by requiring that they write at least one blog post a week (they can chose what to write on). When I relied on them getting online time at computer class (45 minutes once a week) it didn't happen. You need to make it a priority. I did this by eliminating some of their worksheets (I know, my heart broke over it, but what was more important). Now they get at least 30 minutes once a week during this time. I plan to expand this into Math time too, so there will be another 15-20 minutes they will get. I'm SURE that other people manage more in a class of 33 with 7 computers.
