Add four toilet paper rolls per viking and you've got the makings of horns. A little fabric store purchase of fake fur and you're on your way.
It's dangerous to try and corral a bunch of horned creatures ready for plundering but we had much to do. To learn the script for the adventure we studied up on vikings from books from the library. We learned much about these people and about their amazing ship building abilities. We had a ship of our own to build!
Using the cardboard spacers that protect the corners of your washer or dryer during shipping, we constructed our ship. The sail was a final touch and we were ready for Friday's adventure. We pillaged, plundered and otherwise wreaked hovoc on unsuspecting populations and we made memories. Parents filmed as we played and helmets still adorn shelves in bedrooms emptied by kids who have gone on to college, marriage and other frontiers of adult life. I hope the possibilities of these camp experiences continue to add dimension to these kids' lives.
