Anyone interested in participating in a place-based storytelling project I am creating? This will be a research project for a fourth grade class studying Native Americans. My class will be focusing on New York State tribes; I am looking for other classes from the original colonies area. The project will incorporate:
  • research about the tribes
  • podcasting
  • locating and placing each tribe on an interactive Google map, with links back to podcasts and perhaps a wiki
  • writing original Native American legend/tale/myth
  • sharing information with participating classes

Students will work in groups. All information and teacher instructions will be included.

The project will be up and running by mid-September and will be posted on MidLink Magazine .

This looks like a great idea. I've put together a database of educators across many social networks that want to collaborate in one way or another. If you go to oratiobrevis.com you can register yourself. When your done it's going to kick you over to my website where I blog about these kinds of things. if you just want to go to my website the address is http://christonium.com/Jared/

This is great for my 4th graders too. We are on the north central border of SC- Fort Mill, SC (just south of Charlotte, NC). Our area's "history stems from the Catawba Indians, the only surviving Native American tribe in South Carolina." http://www.fortmilltimes.com/staticContent/community/history/
Thanks for the heads up on this project- I'd like to join.

Hi Karen, This sounds like a fascinating project. Could you keep us posted on your progress? Also, SLJ is doing a brief announcement regarding VoiceThread with a link to your Federal Holidays creation.
Cheers,
Kathy Ishizuka
