Well, it's been a while. But, BOY has it been a busy summer! I've finished two of the classes I've been teaching for the college and have two more that finish this week. Paperwork.....gotta love it, right??? I have this week and then part of next in the Teaching and Learning Center for the college and then, I'm off to prepare for the grade school. It's going to happen so quickly! We have teachers meetings on the 13th and the 16th with students coming for a little while on the 17th. I don't think I will actually have any students on the 17th, I don't think I'll get them until the 20th. Either way, it's almost here!
I've met with the second grade teachers and we're working on some project based activities that the kids will work on with their classroom teacher and with me. I'm pretty excited about all that. The kids are going to benefit from that so much more than all those worksheets!
I also got a chance to have a guest speaker in one of my methods classes this month using Skype. That worked SO well! Dr. Kathy King (from Fordham University and Podcast for Teachers www.podcastforteachers.org ) spoke about using technology in the elementary classroom. It went so well that I'm working on a guest for my 1st and 2nd grade classes to demonstrate using Skype for a guest for them. I think that she is going to read the classes a story, but the kids will think that is cool and the teachers will get an idea of something that they can do for their class!
Hope everyone is having a great end of the summer. It's hot here, but then again, it's the end of July! Happy resting!
