Videos, Converting Powerpoints and Web 2.0

What a day - I wanted to put another video on dotsub, but I also wanted to convert a powerpoint to a video. In between getting sidetracked, I downloaded a program (Bytescout PPT to video free preview found on cnet) to convert my PowerPoint on PowerPoint to video, but I was not happy with the results for the particular presentation I had in mind. Actually the converter has so many options, I have more to learn. This presentation needs to be paused often for class discussion. I use it on my website for my students and teachers to open as needed for class or home.
Also I remembered that I had previously downloaded this PPT to slideshare to see what happens there. You can put pix or ppts for public sharing. This is still not what this particular presentation needs, but I learned about both programs along the way.

Anyway, I have another video that I used in many ways.

A little background: A 1st grade class was doing projects about space and I was using Digital Blue Movie Creator that week, so I took still pix of the students and added a "spacy" frame to all pix and special effects. At the very end of the video I added a question that calls for students to make an estimation. I asked that classes email me with estimates.
My 4th graders later created graphs and compared the estimates in GraphClub. This idea evolved into Math Movies. Students in different grade levels made a variety of videos and I came up with a question that would involve math. (I tutor math students 1 day/week.) Questions on other Math Movies estimated distance between cities, height of the principal ,etc.

This year I will add web20 components to Math Movies we create and other videos.

Podcasts/vodcasts maybe?

Post videos on dotsub for students to transcibe and/or translate?

Share videos for others to join in estimations?

Other ideas? If you would like to see the first Math Movie the go to this link and find "1st grade:Aliens Movie"

Find PowerPoint Tutorial on my Teacher Information page. We could never get the music to play right after it was posted on my website - I may try again to repair it.

Final note: another BIG THANK YOU to SusanT for collaborating with me with dotsub videos and more!

JoNelle, great ppt - love the fun theme! When adding music to PPT - unless you are going to show from your computer you need to change the general options in the tools menu. (tools-options-general).
You'll see something to the effect of "link files over 1000kb" which in effect means that rather than embedding large music files in the ppt - they are only linked to - all you need to do is change the size so it is larger than the size of your music files, save and upload again. Just out of interest, why didn't slideshare suit this ppt? Susan

This ppt is nonlinear with a main content page with internal/external links and a few sub-content pages that other sections breakout from. I like to be able to to any page from the content pages as I am teaching to show learners the connections between tools/functions.
It may be that I need to know more about slide share.
Thank you for the ppt lesson above- I will try it now!

Myabe Zoho show might work, I just did a quick trial upload of a microsoft training ppt it uploaded well, http://show.zoho.com/public/iteachr/PlayaMovieinppt.ppt
Don't know how links etc would work but it looks like it has possibilies.

Hi JoNelle - another new online ppt app: www.preezo.com, create and publish online linear and nonlinear presentations, embed in blogs, link and send by mail. As of yet - no special effects such as transitions, music or animations, but the interface is familiar and very user friendly.

A couple of apps for transforming linear ppts to flash, flashspring pro http://www.flashspring.com/products/flashspring_pro.html unlimited free trial and authorpoint lite http://www.authorgen.com/authorpoint-lite-free/powerpoint-to-flash-converter.aspx which keeps most of the transitions and animations and allows immediate upload to a free hosting site.

Thanks for the discussion, ladies. I've been eavesdropping my way through - tried slideshare, and it was fairly indifferent to my complex slides, tried authorSTREAM by itself, and it was better but incomplete, palyed with Zoho, but it didn't like embedding in classroom 2! Preezo looks smooth, but like the rest doesn't want to render the page animations (nor does it want to import powerpoint, apparently) - but with authorPoint, you've solved my problem! (It doesn't improve the author-ridden mistakes, but at least it doesn't introduce new ones!) And I'll prove both points by putting my material on my page here.
Thanks again!

Well, I was too hasty - one converted well, but Religion and Science started well and then fell at the first barrier!
