The article is another reflecting the impact, the net and in particular social networking tools are having on business practices globally.

Another reason maybe to ensure on campus access to the tools, environments and experiences, that I believe must integrated into formal learning at all levels globally.

This is absolutely true!

I think PR and communications is a perfect example of this. There is an obvious shift to PR becoming more about participation than pitching. I would go as far as to say that any publicist who does not have a blog and is not active in the blogosphere in three years won’t have a job (especially in the tech industry).

The problem is that schools have too much of a lag too start teaching the trends. I know in the University of Washington communications department they only have two classes on emerging media (both are about blogging and neither are required).

The more students are used to publishing their work, commenting on others’ work, and taking part in an online discussion, the better prepared they will be for the 21st century workplace.

Agreed. I have many friends in the music industry at all levels and despite the initial reluctance to have a myspace or look at other sites, or ways they can add to their own current sites, it now appears that age is not a factor, resistance has become engagement and their is an understanding that the ways of the past in promoting, marketing, events management, etc etc, are disappearing quickly, thus to retain position, market share and seek growth, it is either adopt and adapt, or shut shop as others will be way ahead of you, leaving you quite possibly out of business.
Why is it the educational sectors globally still do not understand the same basic principles?
