Voice Thread is a delightful idea, a cross between, voice messaging, simple whiteboard, message board and photoalbum.

Teachers are invited to sign up free and create identities for their students, who can then communicate in text, voice and even "scribble"!

OK, very, very cool tool. But can it export to a format that is independent of their site? Flash?

I just finished 6 weeks working with EVO - I must post this resource to their Webhead site. Very cool tool. I am about to investigate further and register. I'll be back to record. Thank you Susan

Really cool. We've been using Yackpack a little--is it similar?

It is similar to Yackpack in as such as holding an asynchronic voice conversation, and being able to embed the conversation in another web page, however that is as far as the similarity goes. I think that yackpack now works synchronically too. I like this tool because of the abililty to add photos and doodle on them.
Steve, As far as I know it can't be exported, the site owners are very quick to answer feedback - it might be worth dropping them a line about that.

Just realized that this voicethread was created about a year ago! It's still great to revisit and find new comments. Since uploading this map I've had many opportunities to implement voicethread in the classroom and we have participated in a few collaborative voicethreads. Yesterday I tried adding a video to vt for the first time, that was a learning experience in itself! A lot of trial and error until I found a video format that would upload.
Anyway, I think this was my first blogpost here on Classroom20. I'd like to take the opportunity to say thanks to Steve and all the wonderful educators who have made every visit to Classroom 20 a learning experience! Oh and please, add yourself to the map :-)
