For the past 30 years I've been connecting workplace volunteers with inner city kids in Chicago, and building a network of peers, supporters and others who could all be working together to build a better infrastructure to support the growth of volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs, so that more of them would be "best practices" in expanding the network of adults helping kids to careers, using the Internet and it's elearning and networking tools, as part of the process.

My database now has more than 14,000 contacts. If I could map this data visually, and in an interactive, searchable program, then others could use the platform to see who in law, or healthcare, or at the University of Minnesota, or at Notre Dame, is working with me, or is on my mail list.

They could sort by city to see if some of these people are in their own community. For instance, I have many tutor/mentor programs from many different cities than Chicago on my database, including Denver and Seattle. Thus, many members of my network could be forming other networks intended to help youth in many communities, not just Chicago.

At http://www.tutormentorconference .org/RegistrationList/ is an example of how such a list could create an on-line contact feature (which people would need to opt in to use).

In the T/MC links library I post links to many sites that illustrate my goals of knowlege management, networking, collaboration, innovation, etc. http://www.tutormentorconnection .org/TMLearningNetwork/LinksLibr ary/tabid/560/rrcid/13/rrscid/24 /rrpid/1/rrepp/20/Default.aspx

None of the tools I have available now help me do this network analysis. So, I've created a couple of diagrams that illustrate T/MC SNA goals

I'm looking for college interns who might want to work with me on this, or who might want to develop a PhD project around the applications of social network analysis can help expand the number of people working together to solve complex social problems.

If you know of people who might be interested in this, please introduce them to me.

Daniel:
I am in your network! You are such an innovator. I may have lost my link to your group though. smccoy@eudoramail.com has changed to smccoy@lycos.com.
We met on the Afterschool listserv, before it became PPAS.
So good to hear about your next ideas.
