I adore "The 2 Sisters" Gail Boushey & Joan Moser of
The Daily Five and the
CAFE Book fame. (If you're not sure, ask an ELEMENTARY teacher--they'll fill you in!) This morning, in my Inbox, I was excited to see their "
Tip of the Week" from their site
http://www.thedailycafe.com. This week they were remembering something Regie Routman had once said at a conference they were attending:
"Regie said that along with the myriad of strategies we all use to engage our reluctant readers, it is also our job to convince them that reading is fun, each day telling them explicitly, how fun it is."
I've said it before, if you teach reading, you must demonstrate a passion for it! What are you doing to demonstrate that passion in your classroom?
On a slight tangent...
This week, after recommending a myriad of books this year to my students, I was privileged to receive a recommendation FROM one of those students along with her personal copy of the book that I could borrow if I wanted. Of course, I said I'd love to borrow and read it. And I am so looking forward to some down time this weekend to do just that.
What a privilege it is to share this joy of reading with my students!
