I have obtained an AUP from Boulder Valley’s Monarch High.
- Under the Introduction/Preamble section, the purpose and goal of Monarch’s AUP is to offer students access to district computers, communications systems, the Internet and an array of technology resources to promote educational excellence. Through this document Monarch High students will learn what is their responsibility in the role of being a technology user as well as how student personnel and parents can help establish expectations surrounding the use of technology.
- Monarch High does not explicitly have a definition section within their AUP, but it would be highly recommended to add because of the ambiguity of the following terms: technology, Internet, digital communications, and digital citizen. The terms left undefined, may be left to the interpretation of the student/parent/teacher.
- Within Monarch's AUP is a section of digital citizenship statements that are explicitly outlined in the form of behaviors and essential understandings. In addition to the digital citizenship section is a “loss or damage” section that explains the school and student liability in regard to school-issued technology.
- As outlined in the Digital Citizen section and the Boulder Valley School District: APPROPRIATE USE OF TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS, students may use technology to:
- complete school work
- promote original creation and presentation of academic work;
- research topics being studied in school;
- research opportunities outside of school related to community service, employment or further education
- As outlined in the Digital Citizen section and the Boulder Valley School District: APPROPRIATE USE OF TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS, students may not use technology to:
- Cyberbully
- Plagiarize
- Harass
- search inappropriate material
- damage or modify school networks
- hacking
- transmit viruses
- conduct non-educational uses
- online chat or instant message
- activities that in violation of school rules, and/or local,state,or federal law.
- Students are reminded the use of district/school technology is a privilege, not a right. Failure to follow or report these violations can result in:
- Use of technology to be restricted or suspended
- Being punished under local, state or federal law
Below is the link to my worlde on AUP. The following words stood out in the word cloud: technology, section, use, student, digital, internet, uses, school, and terms.
Here are the two documents I used from my district:
