It is outrageous that the education of our children remains an underfunded political game, and what follows are incidents such as described in this link. High performing, contributing individuals create opportunities and knowledge for the whole community. These individuals are the ones who make the system work, who make kids feel good about being in school, and it should follow (with logical, caring management) that these individuals are placed such that they can share ideas and methods and help the positive forces increase. I would guess that teachers who place a a high value on gathering data on student grades and test scores will not only be retained, but will be rewarded for their standardized scores, not for helping kids learn anything meaningful.
