edWeb.net and Professional Development

We are delighted that one of the primary ways that the edWeb is being adopted is as a tool to integrate Web 2.0 tools into professional development programs.

Mercer County, NJ is using the edWeb to connect all of their districts for teacher professional development. They have created a community for the PD Directors in each district and are posting their PD courses at each location so all teachers can participate in PD on an expanded county-wide basis.

The edWeb provides a tool to create ongoing, sustainable learning communities that can continue long after onsite courses are over. Teachers can continue to stay connected with their class colleagues and support each other by sharing the results of what they have learned.

The guiding principles for the use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding call for online learning and virtual professional communities that that provide professional development anytime/anywhere and just-in-time feedback from peers and coaches.

Teachers need to “experience” the technology our students live and breathe every day. We all learn better through experiential and social learning. Our students live much of their day (outside of school) in an online world. Educators and industry partners need to experience the technology themselves before they can begin to incorporate it into lesson plans and teaching practice. This is critical to keep classes relevant and engaging for students.

If you are an educator or professional development provider and would like to learn more about integrating the edWeb into your PD programs, please contact us at info@edweb.net.
