I would like to use this space to blog about my learning experiences with the University of Wisconsin at Stout. I decided to attend online classes in order to receive a graduate certificate in eLearning. The University of Stout seemed to have what I needed. I finished the first class in September which was very informative.
The class I am taking now is eLearning
Assessment. The first week included reading various articles on assessment and some interesting ways of really getting students to think on a critical level. Alternative methods were presented for assessing the students online.
One of the problems/dilemmas of online teaching is how to keep the students honest.
Honesty is not always easy even in the f2f classroom. A cheater will always be a cheater if the situation presents itself. It seems that multiple choice tests would not be one of the best assessment tools. I have always regarded multiple choice testing as just a guessing game at times for students. On the other hand students like me, become confused when presented with so many answers at one time. I don't make use of multiple choice in the classroom online or within the walls of the classroom.
I would like to know what kind of alternative assessments you use in your classrooms. How do you know if someone is submitting his/her own work.
Please share your thoughts with me.
