I just read the blog from Francisco about filtering, and I immediately thought of filtering in the classroom. I am often torn between filtering for my 4th graders or not. If I filter too much, they may not know how to search for things online once they get home. If I don't filter enough, they will run into inappropriate things!
This also makes me wonder about filtering out sites such as Youtube and Flickr as a district. My students are 10, and I know they look at Youtube at home because they talk about it! So, what good am I doing for them if I don't show them how to filter through the JUNK to find the good stuff?!?! How do I show this if I can't even get into it at school?
