Today I'm beginning a class on social media. I've delivered this professional development workshop before, but always through traditional blogs and focused on them, calling the class 'Blogging 101'. Of the 30 or so teachers that have attended, only a couple have continued the use of their blogs, though all have been positive about the experience and felt it gave them a better understanding of what the web could provide them and their students.
Last semester, I changed the course. The more I thought about it, the less and less tools were what I felt teachers should take away. I moved the conversation from about blogging to about connections, focusing on developing and maintaining a professional learning network through both blogging and twitter. This semester, we're going to try doing our blogging here, at Classroom 2.0!
I'm excited, both to participate more myself in this community, and to introduce others to it.
