I LOVE post-it notes! I have students use them in all shapes and sizes for a variety of purposes. They’re not only a quick way for students to share ideas when working in collaborative groups, but they also help to add a bit of color to my otherwise white classroom walls.

Today, I learned about wallwisher - an online interactive bulletin board maker. Here are some ways I plan to use this cool new tool in my language arts classroom:

  1. Brainstorm ideas about a persuasive essay topics.
  2. Comment on main characters/minor characters in a novel/short story.
  3. KWL charts.
  4. Use as my "parking lot" where kids park ideas, questions, comments, or concerns about class.
  5. Use photos as writing prompts.
  6. Have students post feedback on each other's writing.
  7. Students can use it to reflect on their learning.

I guess I'll have to invest in some classroom posters to add color to my walls.

Post-its are great I must agree:) Since writing in books is not possible, I have my students use them to note interesting passages, words, figurative language, etc. that they find in their novels. I have the notes in different sizes, many colors, and lined as well as unlined.

I love your ideas for using Wallwisher! Thanks for sharing. I love post-it notes as well. They can be a great formative assessment tool. Students can share their Most Valuable Point (MVP) or lingering questions on a post it note and leave it on the door on their way out. It is good feedback for the teacher. I also have had workshop participants use them to do a "post-it note" summary at a break point - they must summarize their learning concisely enough to fit on a post it note. Post-its are good for "give one to get one" activities as well. Love them!
