Entering Activities: Students will come in and start on a sponge that asks them to write their controlling idea of their piece.
Anticipatory Set: I will go over that today we will spend time writing our reflective pieces. I will ask student to take out their homework and I will have them share with one another, as I check it. This may give them an idea that they did not have before.
Teaching and Learning: I will read aloud to students three examples of writers showing growth through the lens of literacy. I will have students discuss the strengths of each on with a partner and then we will discuss them with the whole group.
Independent Practice
: Students will begin writing their reflective pieces.
Closure: In the last few minutes, I will have students exchange pieces with someone to see what others are writing.

My students worked very hard today. I was surprised at how dilegently they worked on their writing. I got them very excited about writing today because I talked with them about how close we were to finishing our portfolios. I talked with them about being able to use the laptops next week to type our pieces as long as our drafts were complete. They really got into this idea and so they worked fervently. I was a little concerned that maybe they were just going to rush through and throw anything down. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the pieces I read. My students did really well!
