After taking the MII and seeing the results, I was a little surprised. My interpersonal was just two points higher than my intrapersonal score, and I thought they would have been switched. Linguistics was my lowest score, which really surprised me. And my highest score was music. I definitely wasn’t expecting that. Aside from that, my results didn’t really surprise me much.
My top three results (highest to lowest) were music, mathematics, and visual/spatial. The music result threw me off at first but once I got to thinking about it, it made sense. Music plays a huge part in my life. There’s always some random song running through my head or a musical reference that can be made in everyday conversation. After I thought about it for a bit, I realized that if when I would try to remember something for class or anything for that matter, if I could turn it into a song or jingle, I could remember it better. My second highest was mathematics. This was no shocker. When it comes to math, I’m a nerd. The only thing that surprised me about this result was that it wasn’t first. My third highest was visual/spatial. Again, I wasn’t surprised at this at all because I’m a hands-on learner. You can tell me all day how to do something and I probably won’t get it. But show me how to do something and I’ll probably get it the first time. The two results in the middle were naturalistic and body/kinesthetic. I love being outside and tend to fidget when I am sitting in class and such.
I think that seeing the results of the MII shows me my strong points that I can apply in my teaching methods. Since I, myself, am a visual learner, I’m sure that’s how things will be explained in my classroom. Music will probably be incorporated in remembering things and math is what I want to teach. I will also take into consideration the different ways that people learn because not everyone will have to same strengths and weaknesses that I do. i think this is the hardest challenge for teachers is getting the point across to everyone and making sure that everyone understands it. The MII has opened my mind a bit more to the different learning strengths and weaknesses and in doing this, I think it will help me become a better teacher.
