My first blog....

Hello everyone! I am currently working on my MLS degree at Sam Houston State University. I have taught English Language Arts for a few years, and I am now looking forward to sharing my love for reading beyond my classroom and onto the campus as a whole. I've learned so much from the courses I've taken so far. I think the one thing I look forward to as a library media specialist is implementing reading promotion programs. Currently, I am taking Dr. Bell's course -- Internet for School Librarians. We met in the face-to-face meeting yesterday, and in those few hours, I learned so much of what is out there in cyberspace--the good, the bad, and the ugly. I hope to become savvy when it comes to using the Internet and evaluating the massive amounts of information available. The one downside I've encountered in dealing with the Internet, especially social networking, is keeping up with all the accounts. I've found it useful to have some on my phone--facebook and twitter. However, sometimes it can feel overwhelming. One goal of mine is to keep up with those accounts I find useful. I tend to open an account and abandon it once the flurry of life blows in. Well, that's it for now. I hope this won't be the only blog you see up. I guess we'll find out at the end of the semester.....
