Here’s the plan I want to create for my kids. I want to develop a framework that supports them as learners online. It is a living resource and evidence reference about ‘how I like to learn’. This is always a work in progress, and is created, edited and used by them, teachers and us.

Will it have a long tail? Absolutely. In the case of Mr7 it begins as a support – to help him and his teacher negotiate how he sees learning. We are I guess lucky in that we are able to ‘talk teacher’ and may well be able to negotiate modifications to his school year.

But I don’t think that it’s an impossible thing for any parent to do.

After a few years of ‘we understand’, ‘we do have learning plans’, ‘we have had children like this before … etc., then nothing really eventuates that passes from one year to the next. Each year begins with promises and ends in frustration.

So it may not be ‘normal’ but rather than wait in hope, I am hoping that having a damn good go at it will at least begin to change the way in which we document and support our children’s learning life.
