We use "past continuous" in the following situations:
1. To talk about actions in progress in the past at one particular moment.
"I was watching a new serie on Netflix"
2. To talk about two or more actions that happened at the same time in the past.
"My sister was playing with my cat while my mom was cooking cookies.
3. To talk about an action in the past that was interrupted for another action in the past.
"He was having breakfast when Mary came home"
4. To express repeated actions in the past.
"She was always making jokes"
Structure:
(+)affirmative: Subject + was/were + verb-ing + complement.
(-)Negative: Subject + was/were + not + verb-ing + complement.
(?)Interrogative: Was/were + subject + verb-ing + complement.
(WH-question) + was/were + subject + verb-ing + complement
