While I LOVE shopping for school supplies, I do NOT love it when my children are along. And I know for a fact that I'm not the only one. I know because I witnessed it myself yesterday. While shopping with my daughter in the school supply aisles I overheard SEVERAL conversations that went something like this:

"Let me LOOK at that list!"
"No, you do NOT need THAT!"
"Argh! I should have just done this MYSELF!"

Adding to that cacophony was my own argument with my fifteen year old on whether she "needed" the more expensive "5 Star" notebooks vs. the five for one dollar notebooks.

My suggestion? Parent groups order and package up all of the supplies needed for each grade level and sell those premade packages at some back-2-school event. I would be willing to pay extra money just for the convenience and for saving me the headache of having to deal with my own children. This could be a very nice fund raiser! Now, WHO is willing to organize it? :-)

My husband's aunt's kids' school in AZ does this. Also may level the playing field for kids having/not having the cool folders/notebooks/pencils/etc.

So glad to hear that it CAN be done! :-)

I had to laugh as I read - this was me this afternoon. I actually read this aloud to my 6th grade son. Thanks for the chuckle!

I am SO not kidding--just about every mother in that store was arguing with her children. :-) Why do we do that?! School supply companies must have some kind of evil plot behind it all. The ole' "bait & switch"--lure parents in with cheap prices, then make the kids go bazerk (sp?) over the more expensive stuff. :-) LOL!
