Overview:

Screencast-O-Matic is a powerful screen recording software than can be run directly off its web site or via downloaded application. You can choose how large of an area you want to record including 1080p HD quality. Once you start recording you can use the alt+p buttons to pause and resume your recording (helpful if you mess up part of your video or you have to wait a while for say a file to download). Screencast--O-Matic utilizes your built in our external microphone, allowing you to narrate your video as you record. You can also enable (if available) your webcam, a nice feature, which displays a small video of yourself while recording your screen and recording your voice. Finally the program tracks your mouse movements and clicks with a yellow marker, helping your viewers track and understand when and where you click on items on your screen.

Classroom Application:

Screencast-0-Matic would be great for any teacher wanting to attempt a blended learning model where the teacher, in addition to written content, wanted to have video demonstrations and/or instructions. For example, a teacher in a Literacy class, could demonstrate appropriate strategies for researching topics online then upload it to her class website. Students would then go watch this video and learn how to research online, allowing the teacher to use her time working with students since that particular lecture piece was now online.
