Teaching in the digital age

There are many changes that have occurred over the last couple of decades in relation to the new technology that has entered society and the way education has transformed. The video mentions how he had two children go through the same school system and have the same teacher. Both of the students had two completely different experiences while in the science class. This example has shown the huge change in the educational system that deals with hands on technology based learning. It seems that the farther the technology comes along the more distance we have between the use of technology in the classroom and the access to it. However, there are probably two factors that we can see here: one is the problem with the AYP test scores and teachers having to use the majority of their time preparing for the test, and current economic status of many of the states and their school districts. The technology is our school system is sufficient, however, I come from a more affluent school district. Many of the others are probably having problems with suppling their students with the proper forms of technology. To many teachers, why do they want to run the risk of loosing their job because they know that the current education system is not supply an adequate education to their students when they could possibly loose their jobs if they decide to teach then with the changing world. The students will probably not score as well on the state tests, however, they will probably be more prepared for the real world. 

I kind of look at myself has a digital immigrant when it comes to education. I am a recent graduate of my undergrad program, and I was never involved in my education technology classes. The main reason probably was that it was a private school without much money budgeted for the education program. Ever since I left 5 years ago their has been some major improvements to their program, however, I wasn't able to take part in them. I am always willing and wanting to learn new things through technology. One of reasons is that I become very interested in learning a new strategy and I know that the students will become interested in it, basically because it is using technology. I hope that when I become a more tenured teacher with experience in the use of technology in the classroom I can either share that with student teachers or through a mentorship opportunity. One thing the video mentions quite a bit is the use of learning communities in the schools, that is something I can use to share more information from this class with the rest of the teachers in my classroom.
