After searching for interesting interviews transcribed in Spanish, I encountered three specific sources, including: an interview with popular actress and singer, Selena Gomez, an interview with talented Jennifer Lopez, and one with twenty-first century celebrity, Shakira. I chose to translate a portion of the interview with Shakira, as opposed to the other two texts, because I am a fan of her music, particularly the famous World Cup song, Waka Waka. Due to the large amount of words the interview contains, I solely transcribed and translated a portion of 348 words in the source text. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I only had to consult the dictionary eleven times for unfamiliar words. I was able to understand the majority of the text. I had to re-read some of the phrases such as “es para reírse de uno mismo” and “te das cuentas de que a veces se sale fortalecida de la crisis,” to determine the best translation to English, but understood them better once I wrote them out and saw them in context with the remainder of the English translation.
