Glogster, the new way of blogging. Gloster is a site that allows people 13 years and older to create glogs about anything they want. They can add text, images, videos, backgrounds, etc... It is a way for people to express themselves so that all those in the cyber world can read about them. Unlike making a scrapbook or e-mailing information to someone, Glogster allows all those in the public to view what is going on in its members lives.
As a new comer to any form of blogging, Glogster seemed very easy to maneuver and gave many options to add creative elements and flair. Glogster however seems geared more for the teenage crowd than for adults. The different backgrounds and images they have available are very child-like. For instance, an adult who wants to blog about their job, child,etc... is not going to want to have an animated cat on their page or a large clip-art heart to show they love something. This site, to me seems geared toward teens, especially if you compare it to writing this blog on Classroom 2.0.
Therefore, Glogster would be a good site to have students make glogs on. Instead of writing a research paper, you could have the students make a glog or if you wanted to get to know your students better, you could have them make a personal glog. Another way you could use Glogster is to have your students make a glog as if they were a character from a book they've read: what would that character post, what would they talk about, etc... These are only a few options out of the many ways it could be used in the classroom.
For my first glog, I made one on my friendships. I showed images and wrote one word texts about those friendships. I did a section on my sister, my girl friends back home, and my girl friends here at school. It was very easy to download images all at once and then import them onto the page. However, I did not like the text formats. I wanted to make certain words have different fonts sizes, but it changed all the font sizes together. I enjoyed making this blog and reminiscing on my friendships, however I don't think I will be a regular glogger.
Glogster definitely has its advantages for in and out of classroom use. It is an easy maneuverable site that is used for portraying information to those you care about and to those you don't even know all for free. Glogster creates a new web address for every glog you create so your friends and family can see them, as long as they have a computer and internet. This Web 2.0 site is a very useful communication tool.
