Okay, time for honesty: I'm not a teacher. There, I said it!

I do work as a trainer, though. Specifically, I work in a distance learning group, which translates into a lot of doing a lot of stuff with computer. And yeah, it really is a lot. My unit is part of an "elite" unit of trainers for the state agency I work for. As one of the distance learning / eLearning folks, part of my job is to be cutting edge with how to best use technology to deliver effective distance learning courses.

So using Web 2.0 and Social Media in education? You bet! What a great place to network and find other folks who do similar work. I've already found and joined an eLearning group (they spell it E-Learning, but that's ok) and created an Adobe Captivate group.

eLearning is a rather new field and I'm finding a lot of folks don't feel comfortable working in it. I guess I can see that. On one hand, you're using some solid left brain gray matter when organizing the structure and tech / computer aspect of eLearning courses. On the other hand, you have to switch over get get groovy with the right brain with an eye for art and creativity when designing the interface and interaction needed in those same courses. I think a lot of folks generally tend to not jump into that kind of work with both feet. A lot of companies that develop courses actually break those different aspects into different jobs worked by different people. So for those of us who strive to do both, we need to stick together!

My desire is that a place like this will be an avenue for us wanna-be "both brainers" to collaborate and relate to each others' work.
