Hi Fellow Classroom 2.0 Members. I run a blogsite for my personal branding services at: www.CampbellDuke.com. The focus is on 3 main groups: "job hunters, career changers and solopreneurs".
Personal branding has its roots in personal success psychology as well as in marketing. As people work through the process there is a significant focus on communication skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing and representing. (Hmmm... I did spend some time teaching English along with science and math when I taught full-time.)
In creating a personal brand, people work through a process that includes self-assessment, determining and understanding an audience, and using effective communication skills and strategies to disseminate a "message".
Because personal branding focusses also on personal success strategies, it is a great fit in schools and classrooms that are looking for ways to move into assessment for learning strategies. The use of online tools and social media is engaging to students, demonstrating clearly "why" they have to "learn this stuff" and opening up opportunities to discuss challenges and opportunities of online communication behaviours.
