This is the first blog I have entered..trying to be more active here.
I really want to start using wikis in some or all of my classes. I took the first step right before christmas and had some students create a meteorology wiki for a final project. There wasn't as much original thought as I had hoped for, but all in all it turned out okay.
Last week, I created a wiki for my forensics class to unite everything we do in there. I think this could be a great resource for future forensics students and then they can edit and add their own knowledge and ideas. The class didnt go as planned, though. The students weren't that interested in creating a wiki. They wanted to rush through so that they could do their own internet searching and game playing. Many of them just copied and pasted from other sites, and then it was like pulling teeth to get them to site these sources!! The one's that did not copy and paste, posted completely irrelevant things (read: music videos). One or two students reflected on what they had learned about handwriting analysis so far, which was a refreshing thing to see.
Today we are going back to the lab to try to fix this wiki. We will first brainstorm what we know about wiki and then probably delegate who will specifically post what. Hopefully this helps!
