I would like for you to consider creating a place on the cell phone group where we can post links. I have looked through several of the past posts and there are links to some great sites. Unfortunately, they get lost in the shuffle of material. It would be great to have something on the front end where the links could be posted. This would be especially helpful for the newbies who come to the site looking for help, but might not know how to dig through the piles of data to find it. Let me know if you would like to chat.

I am a part of a group of 6 Olin College students (we're in Needham, MA, and engineering students) who has taken a year off to work on an education related project. Since you are in the 'connecting content and technology' group, I thought you might be interested! Our project is called AlightLearning, and this is our "short" project description:
Under the assumption that within ten years, the landscape of modern education will have fully integrated what we now define as new classroom media: video, online collaboration, open source curriculum and other web tools, we hope to pioneer a web software tool that acts as a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web and its tools to students, teachers and parents in a secure, comfortable and innovative environment. Our goal is to have our free software at a pilot middle school by April 15th, 2009, continuing to develop and coordinate with our users to create a product that other schools want to pilot and use at their schools, while allowing individual teachers to implement this tool in their own classroom.
Our project, titled Alight Learning, is currently trying to win an idea competition on Ideablob.com You can find us at http://ideablob.com/3975 . We would love your support in the form of a vote within the next couple days, but more importantly we'd love your feedback and comments. With your work in instructional technology I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based, have a bunch of features, and free basic service. I think Wiziq, particularly, might be quite helpful to staff and students in New York City schools especially if the City schools are looking to go online a bit more.

E-learning & Training Specialist
Location: North Bronx
Reports to: Director of Training
Our company is embarking on a major initiative to transform our training from solely classroom-based workshops to blended learning. In order to support this project, a new dedicated full time position has been created.
As a member of the Training team, the E-learning & Training Specialist will work with the Director of Training to support Training initiatives nationally. The focus will be on working collaboratively with the Director and with a consulting organization to create and implement interactive, engaging, and effective e-learning modules, including but not limited to decision-making scenarios, simulations, mini-games, wikis, video lessons, e-seminars, etc. Other responsibilities will include coordination and delivery of classroom training as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
National Training Initiatives (90%)
· Work with the Director of Training to ensure successful implementation of e-learning project
· Help evaluate & select from e-learning vendors bidding on the e-learning contract
· Review, edit, create, and write materials needed for e-learning modules
· Make sure the e-learning project hits all deadlines and milestones
· Serve as a liaison between the Training team, the consulting organization, and internal staff whose participation is required for the e-learning project
· Actively participate as a contributing member of the Training team
· Deliver training in other regions as needed
Regional Training (10%)
· Facilitate training workshops as needed
· Support training logistics as needed
· Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Commitment to our mission and educational approach. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred. Understanding of the principles of e-learning instructional design, as well as the principles of adult learning. One-two years’ experience working on an e-learning design & e-learning implementation project. One-two years’ experience delivering interactive, engaging training to adults; excellent facilitation skills required. One-two years’ experience assessing, developing, and maintaining training curriculum and materials. One-two years’ project management experience. Strong writing and editing skills absolutely required. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Positive attitude, sense of humor, and ability to work on a team, as well as independently. Flexible and extremely reliable. Familiar with office technology and software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email). Experience working with elementary school children a plus. Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus. Up to 10% travel required. Occasional weekends required.
