Video: A Vision of K-12 Students Today
I really enjoyed this video and I thought it was wonderful the way that the people in the video didn't "orally" say anything, yet their "voices" were spoken so "loudly". The main points that "stood" out to me were: Large class sizes, their teacher's don't know their names, the activities that they are involved in don't relate to real life, they buy textbooks that they never open, they will be in debt after graduation and that they bring their laptops to class but are searcing other information instead of paying attention.
This video is very "powerful" as it drives home a message that I truly believe in: if children can't "relate" to the material being taught and make an "emotional" connection to it, then they simply rote memorize it, but don't fully learn it. This is also true for adult learners as well. Students will start their lives after college in debt, paying for their education, but to pay for books that are never opened; wow!! What an eye-opener!
