School / Work Affiliation: University of Arizona

About Me: I am employed by the University of Arizona. I relocated to Arizona after my mother became sick and needed help. I am presently training to be a coach for area high schools participating in the Safe and Supportive Schools (S3) grant. I was formerly a middle school teacher, twenty years as a special educator for the emotionally, behaviorally, and learning disabled populations. The other six were spent as an eighth grade language arts and technology instructor.

I am also the mother of three sons with the youngest being eighteen.

At 5:23am on June 4, 2010, Mariam Raza said…: Hi Carla! Just continuing from my previous message :) Last year I used Quia.com to test my students on the use of the words sit, sat, and set. It saved me a lot of grading. All I did was enter the questions into the form providing by Quia and let each student take the assessment on their own. They did it faster, because they're good with the computer and typing, we graded nothing in class, and the whole ordeal was over with in just a few minutes. If it was done by paper it would have taken us much longer! It save me a big headache. The only thing I had to do was invest the time to learn and use the online software and develop the e-quiz.

I also started a project with my students in which they would voice their opinions that were important to them through a podcast, blog, or YouTube video -- we didn't have time at year's end to finish it -- but perhaps we'll take up the project next year.

This coming school year I'm planning on using Glogster a lot. Basically you can create an online poster to show what you've learned throughout the year -- you can add videos, audio, text, pictures, and design it to you heart's content.
