About Me
I am a literacy education consultant with LitLife, a consultancy based in Yonkers, NY. My primary role is to mentor/coach teachers in curriculum writing and classroom structures and methods that support reading and writing instruction. Areas of specific interest include the literacy workshop, content area integration, and ed-technology.

I also love spending my time with my husband and two girls, ages 11 and 13.

Hey Carolyn,

Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!

That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules.

Do you mind passing my message along to students and your colleagues again?

Thanks,
Jack

Carolyn, I wanted to say thanks for sending the newsletter to me. It was an interesting newsletter. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, but it's busy this time of year as you know. Any interesting topics jumping up?

Hope literacy is going well for you.

Yes, I think we must have very similar jobs. I havn't been to his conference as of yet. I'm also working on my PhD and have been going to either AERA or some IES special conferences for work because they beef up my resume of presentations. I'm in that delicate balance of trying to learn more while positioning myself for future employment. I've spoken to Vicki and Darren about the conference, but that's as close as I have come. I am working on another post about literacy with an example of something I'm doing with a couple of teachers in Belfry, KY (deep Appalachia). They are doing a very intensive Interactive Student Notebook with their students to increase the connections their students are making and getting their students to express their understandings better. I'll post soon.

Hi Carolyn!

Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you, your educator contacts or students would be interested in participating in a Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get NJ students involved.

You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
