About Me
I am executive director of NewsTrust.net, a social news network devoted to good journalism. We help people find and share quality news coverage online, so they can make more informed decisions as citizens.

NewsTrust.net publishes a daily feed of quality news and opinions from trusted mainstream and independent sources, based on ratings from our reviewers. Our web review tools enable students to evaluate accuracy, fairness, context, sourcing and other core journalistic principles -- and become more discriminating news consumers in the process. Our social news network gives them a practical way to share quality news on important issues ranging from climate change to human rights -- collectively selected by our reviewers based on journalistic quality, not just popularity.

NewsTrust is a free educational resource for use in classrooms, libraries and online courses about communications, journalism, english literature, social studies and media studies. Our educational partners include Stanford University, Northeastern, Stony Brook and the University of Nevada, to name but a few. We would love to share our findings and make NewsTrust available to more educators. To find out more, check the teacher guides on our site: http://newstrust.net/guides/teachers

My previous ventures include: Handtap, a leading-edge wireless service for mobile phones; shockwave.com, a leading web entertainment site which I help launch and run at Macromedia; Apple's Multimedia Lab, where we pioneered new media applications; and Videowest, where we created a new genre of video journalism for ABC and MTV. When I turned 50, I decided to switch careers to give back to society -- and have devoted myself full time to social change ever since. I was recently elected an Ashoka Fellow for my work as social entrepreneur.
