Hi Jason! I use the SmartBoard for sooooo many things! It takes the place of my regular "white board" - and I hardly use the others in my room now. I teach using interactive lessons (either ones I've created myself, or some I've found online) that really get the students engaged. You can insert links to websites which the kids can "click" on and see a whole new world of possibilities. Living in Arizona, it's great to have the ability to Google the word "glacier" and have hundreds of pictures and definitions pop up on the "big screen." Suddenly, 25 nine and ten-year olds who have grown up in the desert can visualize a glacier - something they've never experienced. :)
In addition to lessons and lesson supplements, I even use the SmartBoard for morning routines. The first day of school I have the students sign their names on the board, and then that becomes my attendence taker for the rest of the year. The students come in each morning, and go drag their names into the "I'm here" column - then I just have to look up at the "Absent" column and mark my attendance from my desk. It's a real time saver - AND it helps the kids get comfortable with the SmartBoard.
Truly - I could go on and on and on about the amazing capabilities. So let me know if you have any further specifics you'd like clarified! What grade do you teach?
Yes. I'm in ED693. I just got on here, so I'm still checking it out. I see you work at K-Beach. I used to do assistive tech. for KPBSD and spent a lot of time there. How long have you been there?
