Hi Rachel,

With your work in Library Media and Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.

Rachel, I just read your discussion post on your school's enlightened "blocking with responsibility" policy. Kudos to you and your team.

I am working with a school who uses Lightspeed (which I know nothing about) for filtering. It is set up to block ALL wikis and most all Web 2.0 tools. They are willing to open some of this up but don't know how to do this in Lightspeed. Can you shed any light? Feel free to direct msg or email me if you are willing and/or have time. Thanks!!

Hi Rachel, I'm Cullen Weeden. I'm a teacher librarian at Presbyterian Day School, an all boys elementary school in Memphis, TN. I'm trying to learn more about web 2.0 tools and am following the "23 Things" program developed by Helene Blowers at the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenberg County. This is an online tutorial that guides you through 23 various web applications from blogs, and wikis to podcasts, RSS and others.

I started a "Great Reads" bulletin board and invited the 4th - 6th grade boys to write short book reviews and post them on the bulletin board. This year I started podcasting the book reviews and that has really exited the boys and has really encouraged them to write the reviews. They love seeing and hearing themselves.

I would love to hear how you are using web 2.0 tools in your library.

Hi, I just joined the library group on Classroom 2.0. I'm a middle school librarian and I'm looking for ways to use 2.0 with my students and teachers.

Thank you, Jane! Just found you guys today. Would love to find some fellow Media Specialists (Librarians) who are looking for innovative ways to incorporate technology into their information skill instruction - especially for primary grades. Found one library media group, but it is fairly small and doesn't have any discussions going on right now. I suppose I could change that, couldn't I?
