I feel like I am kind of in between a digital immigrant and a digital native. I have tried to continue to develop with new technology skills throughout my teaching career, but in this day and age it has become a challenge to keep pace with students today. I feel that there are still some things that students need to learn that may not be best taught with technology. I wonder how much the face to face social interaction students miss when using some of today’s technologies. Will these students be able to collaborate in person in the work place if they lack these skills?
Today’s students move at a faster pace and are very effective at multi-tasking. As a teacher, I must find ways to challenge that learning pace and keep them engaged at a level so that I do not lose their attention and interest.
As an educator, I know that I have to evolve with today’s learner and develop a way to make my content relevant to them in the style that they learn best. If I ever decide that I am not willing to continue to adapt to new teaching styles, that is the day I will lose my effectiveness as a teacher.
