I feel so badly about this, but CR 2.0 isn't really geared toward young students anyway. I hope you'll find something good for them, and will encourage you to keep your own account here and consider signing up at http://education.ning.com for future announcements about appropriate networks for younger students.
Would you mind sending me a regular email at steve@hargadon.com with the names of the students, just so that I am able to delete their accounts. I feel particularly badly for Lucy, who had her picture up and had corresponded with several folks. Looks like a sweetheart. Extend my apologies.
I'm so sorry to do this, but I have to ask you to have your students remove their accounts from the network. Ning has a requirement that anyone using their social networking platform (which Classroom 2.0 is doing) must be 13 years or older. This is directly related to laws in the US regarding children and privacy.
I emailed Lucy directly, since I hadn't figured out that she must have be one of your students, and asked her to talk to her parent or teacher about this. Now that I've talked to you, would you mind helping her understand my email and the reasons why I have to follow these rules?
I'm so excited that you have students interested in using a site like this, and want to encourage you to continue whatever good work you are doing!
I'd be glad to call you by phone to explain if that would be helpful. Otherwise, would you make sure they delete their accounts--or I can delete them from here, which I'll have to do soon if I don't hear back from you.
