Can somebody please recommend a useful screen casting widget? I've never made a screen cast before; but, I want to do so now. Preferably, I'd like a free one.

Thanks.

Hi,
I use screencast-o-matic too. I'm new to screencasting. When I started researched screencasting, I came across the "o-matic" and thought, hmm... that's got to be easy. It is and I like that it's web based.
http://www.shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html This is an application that I use. It's not free, but at $20., it's a handy piece of software.
Ok, there's a lots of great software to produce flash tutorials (in .swf format).
But my problem is: where can I upload it for free and share it whith my students (whith the option to embed in my blog...) ?
Does anyone help me?
I only know Screencast.com (from Jingproject), but there's a lot of limitations in bandwith...
I'm seeking something like Youtube but for flash files... (and with private onptions).
Am I asking too much?
Have you tried http://www.blip.tv
It works pretty well - faster upload than YouTube and good resolution.
Here is a new application by the people that brought you Wirecast. It has the same features of SnapZpro and Jing but can do a lot lot more. It's about a $100.00 though, it's called Screen Flow.

If you use Windows; try CamStudio http://camstudio.org/
Its free and works pretty good. If your looking to buy something
I like Camtasia http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp

I also like Camtasia. I find it very easy to use and worth the money! You can see the masterycasts I have made for my students in the subjects section of www.masterymaze.com. See US and Ancient World history...Love it!!

There's a good peepcode episode for nine dollars that gives you instructions to this end, though you'd need to spend around thirty.

i bought screenflow last week and just produced my first screencast this morning.
TipCam is a free screencasting tool for Windows found at http://www.utipu.com/app/download. It's easy to use, and you can host your content at uTIPu.com. Full Disclosure: I work at uTIPu, and we are currently investigating how to better serve educators.
There are a lot of screen recorders for you to choose. The free one most popular people use is Camstudio. Or you can try Jing Project. If you don't mind using the trial version, DemoCreator could be a good one.
Just use Windows media Encoder--free, easy.
a lot of good ideas posted already....here is one more:
