Edmodo Microblogging for students

Is anyone else using edmodo?

I have tested it with senior students last term 2008 and hope to continue using it this year, despite my DET blocking access to edmodo at school.

My HSC Year 12 seniors use it at home and so far it has helped with study prep, assignment/assessments amongst the group and to calm pre test nerves.

I am curious as to who else uses any 24/7 type access with students, what do you use and how effective has it been?

Any feedback appreciated.

I just found edmodo and I am VERY excited about it! I think that for the remainder of this year, I will be using it just to get myself used to posting short messages about what we are doing in each of my classes, but I am hoping to roll out more expansive use of it with the students next year. I also think that if I could lure a few of my other middle school colleagues into using it that the kids would really start to use it - and how easy to set up! Based on my few forays into it, I kind of feel like it is what I was really hoping to set up when I started down this web2.0 path....

How are you using it?
