Unacceptable and ineffective ways of dealing with discipline problems
1. scolding and harsh words as a reprimand will have a negative effect on the entire class.

2. Nagging and faultfinding, together with long "sermons" are repugant and nasty.

3. keep a student in a "detention area" during or after classes as a penalty for misbehavior is a waste of time and occasion for learning. the shameful experience is not easy to forget.

4. denying a student some privileges due to unnecessary hyperactivity can all the more encourage repetitions.

5. assignment of additional homework compared to the rest can make them dislike the subject.

6. use of ridicule or sarcasm could humiliate and embarrass a formentor.

7. Grades for academic achievement should not be affected due to misdemeanor.

i think, there are many teachers who can't avoid what you have written above. i't can't be totally deleted but it can be lessen. even i, i admit that sometimes i did something like that. classroom management is useful. i think,reinforecers will help.

-negative reinforement. this technique is sometimes use by students to get attention from you. so watchful. students today are very intelligent, they tend to push the teacher's to thier limitations to prove if you can do what you say. consistency on rules are very effective so that they will know where to stand in the class.

-Assignments are necessary to education. it is for evaluation. but giving too much makes the students hate that subject more.

If possible could you expand on what activities would include "unnecessary hyperactivity" as noted in point 4.

I generally agree with what you have said except for number 3. Sometimes one needs to realize that discipline cannot always be immediately corrective. Sometimes it is a matter of removing the student from the situation so the other 34 kids can move on.

The best way to deal with discipline is make your class a place kids want to be. Then they have no reason to act against you and you need only deal with their periodic mistakes with each other.

I know that sounds "moon child" like but shoot, it works.
