I've been teaching SketchUp as a unit in middle school for the last 3 years, with each year seems to turn out better than the last. My question is does anyone else teach this? If so what works best for you? Any links to lesson materials would be great.

I am in the middle of redesigning how the unit is taught, and have found that a short video clip explaining how a tool could be used followed by a tutorial that allows for students to apply what they saw to be the most effective.

Here's a sample if anyone is interested in collaborating.

Have you created any checklists or rubrics for Sketchup? My kids use it but I never know if they are making any strides--are they just doing entry level tasks over and over?
We have for a few years now ... and now that the Cobalt project supports the KMZ format we a leveraging it to build virtual worlds as well ..... http://opencobalt.org is worth a peak .... the KMZ model importer should be available within a week or so. Our own Cobalt tweek is here -> http://edusim3d.com .... we are building "Eco City" virtual world using Sketchup/Cobalt .... then "Rockets & Space" .. then "Cells & Organs"

You know, this could be used to create a civilization, maybe? Design your own classical/river valley civilization for Global Studies classrooms.
I'm using Sketchup in middle school for the second time.
This time we made the following video by using also Sketchyphysics
to make the cars run, jump, hit each other ...
