I am looking for some great examples of district websites. If anyone feels they have a great example of a district website can you please post? Our website is a bit old fashioned and I would like to show some examples of how it can be done better. Thank you!

Hi Eve. I've been volunteering with our local elementary school and have been experimenting with something for just this purpose. I've been trying to produce a solution for the teachers I help with that will enable them to build not just a website for themselves (the class), but also something that the school could use as well, and have them tied together in a community/social type way. I'm working on expanding the overall look and feel that is available, and so far have been focusing primarily on functionality. You can see if it suits your needs (it's free)... you can find it at http://www.19pencils.com.
In my previous district we went with a company called schoolwires. They have a full feature website template. Our teachers had blogs, podcast pages with RSS, Photogalleries, minibases, etc. The site also has e-alerts via email and cell phone text messages. www.schoolwires.com. You can take a look at the site i put together with them. www.hillsdaleschools.com. Since then I have moved to a new district (2 weeks ago). I am working to go in the same direction here. Our site is here is not very dynamic.
Here is the link to the Horry County School District:

We are presently using SharpSchool.
Hi Eve,

We offer fully dynamic CMS based websites to all K-12 schools and Districts in the US (and abroad actually). There is no risk or commitment to signup and use the site(s), and activation, once you request your code, can be done in less than 5 minutes.
Rather than go into everything at length here, I'd prefer to point you to a few links, after all there's nothing like seeing it live.
I'd also be more than happy to give you a live online demo at your convenience. If you like what you see, just contact me and we'll set something up. Here are a few links to get you started:
Our home page http://webschoolpro.com
Preview any school in the US, including the schools in your district at http://webschoolpro.com/preview.html (select your state, county district and school)
View schools and districts using WebSchoolPro at http://webschoolpro.com/viewschools.html
Sign up for your risk free, free school site here http://webschoolpro.com/signup.html

Here are a few live district sites you can look at:

Really, there's absolutely no risk to activate the school sites, and once activated you can immediately dive in and begin editing, making changes, adding pages etc. all via your web browser. Please don't hesitate to send me a message if you need more info.

Best Regards,
