Mix it Up at Lunch Day and Skype

Mix it Up at Lunch Day is on Tuesday, November 10th. The event is a simple call to action: take a new seat in the cafeteria. By making the move, students can cross the invisible lines of school division, meet new people and make new friends.

To encourage our students to become more comfortable interacting with different kinds of people, we want to spend part of our lunch period Skyping with students from other parts of the country. Would your school be interested in Skyping with us?

Would love to hear more about what you have planned for the Skype session, we just put Webcams in every classroom in our district, therefore I am sure we would have quite a few different grade levels interested in skyping with you!

Hi Jeff!

We are going to have our students sit together at tables according to the month they were born. While the students eat they will engage in an activity that will help them become more comfortable interacting with people outside of their social group. During the last ten minutes of the lunch period we would like to Skype with another school and have selected students ask questions about school, the town, etc. We have a theater style projector in our cafetorium, so while all of the students won't be able to ask a question, everyone will be able to watch and hear the discussion.

Where is your school located? We are in Eastampton, New Jersey (about 30 minutes from Philadelphia).

That is an interesting idea. I will ask my school, I am not sure that they will go for it, but they might. I actually use Skype in class to talk to their e-pals from other countries. Good luck!
