Hi all, I am considering additional training in Educational Technology, and I was wondering if anyone has recommendations on programs available. I know UOIT has a masters in EdTech, and Concordia has a PhD, but I know very little about these specific programs apart from the info in their literature.
I am looking for useful training, not specifically additional letters after my name (though that doesn't hurt!).
Given the collective skillsets I see on this list, I am sure there are some useful suggestions out there!
I am in Toronto, so either a reasonably close school, or one that offers distance ed, would be a definite bonus.

I did my masters in Ed Tech at University of Calgary as a distant student and thought it was a very wonderful but it was an expensive experience. I am now doing my doctorate but face to face at UofC. Check it out http://educ.ucalgary.ca/gder/specializations/educational-technology
Try the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. I have presented at a technology copnference there a couple of years ago.
Yes, that is one I am looking at. I just found out one of my friends is doing that program, so I am getting some feedback from him.
Hi Ed -- I'm taking an online Master's in Instructional Media through Wilkes University/Discovery Ed. in the US. In fact I'm the official blogger/grad assistant for the program (http://wilkesinstructionalmedia.blogspot.com/). It is all designed for classroom teachers and tech coaches to blend tech tools into their day-to-day work. We have a group that meets online on Tuesday's when classes are in session and if you'd like to listen in to get some background on the program, I'll happily send you the link.

Also I'd take a look at the online division at University of Regina --particularly Alex Couros's courses. You can take them for credit or just audit for free. He did a presentation in Classroom 2.0 Live in December which is archived.
thanks - Wilkes looks interesting. Am I right that at 30 credits it would take 3 years or so to complete on a part-time basis?

Auditing a UoR course sounds interesting, though I can't find where one does that on the site.
Hi Ed:
~I started at Wilkes in Feb/March of 2009 and will finish in the fall of 2010 taking one course (7 weeks) at a time year round. If you want more information, I can put you in touch with Karena who's in charge of the program.
~For information about the UoR open courses, you can contact Alec Couros (http://education.uregina.ca/index.php?id=20&type=faculty&ui...). Here's the website for the latest one he did (http://eci831.wikispaces.com/).
It looks like Wilkes offers a number of similar programs - 21st Century Teaching and Learning, Classroom Technology, Instructional Media, and Online Teaching. I may need some time to go through and figure out the differences between them.
The Art and Science of Teaching also sounds interesting...
Hi Ed -- sometimes the courses look alike and there can be overlap, but they are really designed to come at the use of tech in the classroom from different angles. The one thing they don't let Instructional Media students do is take courses in other programs. However if you're taking say the Online Education program, you can dip into the Instructional media pool of courses. I'm going to be working on them to open that up a bit.

Here's the email for the co-ordinator of the program. If you want to ask how the courses differ, she's a great one to chat with and will call and give you all the information you want. Her name is Karena and she's at karena.zdeb@wilkes.edu.

My current course is Video Production. It's going to be a real challenge as I bought a camcorder 2 years ago at the Best Buy Boxing Day sale but never took it out of the box. If you ever want to ask some students in the program questions, we meet online on Tusedays. I attended their meet-ups for about 2 months before I finally decided to plunge in.
