Analyze the lesson in terms of the the Six C's table on pages 93 & 94. In a reply to this discussion, describe how the lesson meets each of the Six C's. If it does not meet each of the six C's describe how you could modify it so that it does.

Peer Editing-Choice: In the lesson plan students were prompt to create a story about a snow day. They had the choice to write what they would choose to do during their day off school. This allows each student to have a different story and the stories can be created at age level. I think that the only thing I would change is allowing students to have more than one story prompt to go off.
Challenge: Students lengths varied in this lesson and it could easily be extended to adding pictures.
Control: The whole lesson is basically control because students are correcting the papers they write and are seeing how they can improve upon it.
Collaborate: Students peer edit each others work in small groups of three or four which allows for students to have many different opinion and give their opinion many different times. (The first step is always to compliment.)
Constructing meaning: This lesson should be taught, then the emphasis on everyday use should discussed. Students should understand how and why this is important in the writing process.
Consequences: Because the lesson is taught in a way that students have to have many peers edit their work, they will be able to see the importance of revising. After editing students must take responsibity to make the corrections as given.
I thought this lesson was very good overall. It seemed to be a lesson that could be taught to any grade but was focused towards 3-5, even in college students need more practice with peer editing.

The lesson that i chose is geared towards 2nd grade. It is called A is for Apple: Building Letter Recognition Fluency



The Six C's

Choice: They are using websites to become more familiar with the letters and the sounds that the letters make. At the end of the lesson the students will be making a ABS me book.

Challenge: They are challenged to play this game with letters and sounds. They have to match the letter with the sounds with or without a timer.

Control: They are asked to take cards home so that they can play this card game at home for them to have a better understand of letters and words.

Collaboration: The students are put in groups so that they can help each other if they are having problems coming up with things for their me book that they will be presenting at the end of the lesson.

Constructing Meaning: They are to first come up with things for their me books on their own and if that doesn’t work then they can look in books and magazines. This is because they will find the first thing they can find and it might not be about them.

Consequences: They take their me books home to share with their parents and the last page is a comment page that the parent has to write a positive comment. This helps the students become more confident.
Good application of the 6C's!
My lesson Seeing Integrations from Different View Point was found on the Read Write and Think website. This lesson lets students use colored glasses to view court-ordered desegregation from different perspectives.

The Six C's:

CHOICE in this lesson allows the students to make decisions based on their ideals and beliefs however it also CHALLENGES them to see things from other perspectives through different lenses. The teacher can give the students some CONTROL by letting them choose the first lense they would like to look through. Their are alot of group activities and different jobs assigned to the members in the group which allow them to COLLABORATE with each other towards their common goals. The reading material, worksheets, etc.. guide the students through the lesson with some deadlines and rules which gives the students CONSEQUENCES.
I have heard of these kinds of activities implemented in other classrooms! They are very effective in terms of improving attitudes toward diversity!
The lesson plan designed for 6-8 th graders, focuses on critical review of todays television: "Critical Media Literacy: TV Programs"
Choice - Students would have the opportunity to choose from myriad programming options to review.
Challenge - Depending on the detailed or assigned projects, students would be challenged to find the social significance of the issue
Control - Students can guide discussions or choose the direction of the social pertinence to what is being reviewed.
Collaboration - Students would participate in class discussions.
Constructing Meaing - Students would decide on how the media impacts their lives as students / citizens / etc.
Consequences - How can the media impact our future / how is the media changing our lives (daily perceptions).
Good application of the 6C's! Sounds like a great project-based learning activity!
