I am presenting at a technology conference this week and am looking for your list of the top ten social networking sites for k12 teachers.  What are your thoughts on what should make the list and why...

thanks in advance

I love NING, especially with its ad-free promotion for educators! As the administrator, I can control activity and not expose my students to unwanted information, etc. NING has an incredibly easy to use format, with lots of features (RSS, links, blog, chat, forum, events, etc.) I can also send broadcast alerts to all my students about upcoming events, etc with just one click! Love it!
Ning has just announced that they are getting rid of their free accounts. On May 4th, they will be announcing their new pricing structure and are stating they will have a "low cost" option for educators. You might want to check out Edmodo instead.
Ning - all in one and full-featured class connection point.

Delicious - Helps students find what you want them to find on the internet

Google Apps - Powerful applications that can be shared.
Google Apps for collaboration, sharing information and working towards a paperless classroom.
Edmodo- for students and teachers to collaborate in a facebook-like environment.
Ning- if you have enough people participating and invested in it
Twitter - for quick tidbits.
Edmodo. While I agree NING has great features Edmodo does a better job at streamlining everything to make it easy for the no-so-techy teacher to jump on and learn how to use it right away. Students think it looks just like facebook so their instantly intrigued. I would go with Edmodo
I vote Edmodo too, but i'm also biased because I'm the co-founder of Edmodo.
I like Edmodo as well, partly because (I believe) Ning is only for kids 13 and older.
I vote for ning and I also like diigo (especially groups)
I like Ning for creating my own classroom network for high school. TodaysMeet.com is a good tool for back channel communication. Gives you some of the effect of Twitter, but on a more private basis. Wallwisher.com is a good environment for elementary students to add their "two cents worth" in a controlled environment.
for a fun occasional project, check out goanimate.com; I"ve used it for world history and geography projects, students love it.
Thanks for suggesting our site! We're almost finished with the K-12 Educational version. I will keep you guys updated as we get closer to launch.
